I first followed Sur Fresh (Instagram: @Sur_Fresh) on Instagram when I was searching for cool backdrops for photo shoots in the city. He is popular in the art museum scene and frequently visits all of the latest and newest art exhibits in the city. Later, when 52 Stories launched I realized that it would be cool to meet Fresh in person and interview him about his love of art in the city.
I've known Patricia Cruz Jamandre since she first moved here from the Philippines during elementary school. I was her first friend in America and after high school, I didn't see her for eight years. After I moved to NYC we reunited in Brooklyn's Bushwick area where she hosted a holiday party.
If it weren’t for Thanh, I probably wouldn’t have moved to New York City. The one thing holding me back from moving here (vs. San Francisco or Los Angeles) was that I wouldn’t know who to room with. But one day I decided to message Thanh on Facebook Messenger asking for NYC housing tips and he said the fated words, “Come live with me!” Right then and there I decided I’d be moving to New York. It was the last “go” I needed to make the jump.
I sat down with my friend Shota at Think Coffee on the corner of E 21st St and 3rd Ave one blistering cold day in December. We had originally wanted to go to Rolf's Restaurant across the street but we didn't want to wait an hour in the 10 degree weather. And it turned out to be a good idea, because we ended up talking back and forth for five hours, discussing things from what happens after death to the NY raving scene (he's been to a lot of shows).
